The through-beam sensors have a very powerful acoustic beam, providing a large detection range with compact body dimensions. Unlike diffuse and retro-reflex models, these sensors do not switch between transmit and receive modes and do not wait for an echo signal to arrive. Double sheet sensors are through–beam sensors optimized for detecting double or fused sheets, as well as tag counting. These sensors distinguish between empty spaces, one and two layers of sheets of various materials (paper, metal, plastic, etc.). When performing tag detection tasks, the sensors can distinguish between the label substrate and the base material.
